The Direct Funding (DF) Self-Managed Attendant Services Program embodies the key principles of the Independent Living philosophy: choice, flexibility and control!

​This innovative program is funded by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and administered by the Centre for Independent Living in Toronto. Niagara Centre for Independent Living provides information and support to Self-Managers in Niagara, Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk.

The DF program enables adults with a physical disability, who require attendant services for personal care, to become employers of their own attendants. Attendants assist with routine activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, transferring and toileting. This program puts you in charge of hiring and training your own staff and scheduling attendants to meet your own daily needs. You receive monthly funds to pay your attendants and the program is portable throughout Ontario.

The Direct Funding Co-coordinator is available to assist you every step of the way. This includes inquiries about the Program, assistance completing the application, studying for the selection panel interview, support during the startup phase and along the way as a self-manager. You will also have the support of a bookkeeper, an administration Centre as well as the Centre for Independent Living in Toronto.
